I’ve got nothing against yoga…
But for the purposes of this post, I’m going to assume you are getting enough sleep, eating properly and have your own preferred ways to relax.
What follows are just a few thoughts around what works for me, to keep everything on track and minimise the risk of burnout over the long term.
> SAY NO MORE THAN YOU DO. We all struggle to master this skill. But learning to saying no more often, when it doesn’t fit with your overall objectives – and also saying no to low value tasks – can seriously prevent overwhelm. Not to mention you’ll become more effective in actually achieving your core objectives.
> TALKING OF OBJECTIVES… Unless you have clear, simple and narrow objectives, learning to say no to the other stuff will be pointless.
> SUPPORT NETWORKS. Connect with peers, friends and mentors on a regular basis. Don’t isolate yourself in your business.
> TAKE TIME FOR THINGS OUTSIDE OF WORK. Whether that’s sport, family, passions, hobbies or interests. Even yoga. The smallest non-work activity can create a more rounded perspective on the world – and give you breathing space when you need it.
> DON’T COMPROMISE ON THINKING TIME. Don’t just do tasks, put regular time aside for creative thinking and strategy.
> LINK SUCCESSES TO FUN STUFF. Celebrating milestones en route to reaching your ultimate goals in life and business is important. Linking these achievements to simple, fun rewards will trigger positive and reinforcing brain chemicals. What’s not to like?
