Having an exit strategy doesn’t mean that you’re exiting anytime soon.
It just means you know HOW you’re going to scale up your business, maximise its valuation and the route you’ll take WHEN you eventually exit.
The problem is that some founders face burnout along the way.
And it’s definitely a top reason I hear from business owners thinking seriously about their exit.
Something along these lines: I’ve been doing 80-100 hour weeks for years now, made big sacrifices and I can’t face doing this when I am [fill in the blank] age.
But let’s face it, most founders would be perfectly happy to hold on to their business for longer – if it ran successfully without them.
And I don’t just mean it functions without them. It actually thrives without them.
This is not something that happens by chance – but by design.
And it’s not just about hiring the right people. These days it’s also about putting the right systems and infrastructure in place early enough.
Not just ploughing on and only focusing on growth.
